Universal Flu Vaccine (VXD2-UV)

Material Adenovirus vectors based vaccine
Project Ministry of health and welfare
Indication Universal flu virus
Development progress
Identification of contesting materials Preclinical Stage 1 clinical

An intranasal universal flu vaccine combining two types of recombinant adenoviruses expressing influenza ANP and BNP respectively, inducing broad cross-protection via NP antigen-based T-cell immunity

1. Platform overview

1) A vaccine platform using non-replication adenovirus vectors

2) Encouraging strong cellular immunity by directly expressing the influenza NP (nucleoprotein) antigen in vivo

2. Antigen strategy

1) Target the preserved antigen of the influenza virus (NP)

-NP proteins are one of the internal antigens of Influenza A/B viruses, with few mutations unlike HA/NA envelope glycoproteins which is the target for current seasonal influenza vaccines

-NP proteins have the highest preservation: able to be used in universal influenza vaccines

2) Capable of cross-protection across multiple subtypes/lineages through a nucleoprotein-specific T-cell immune response

3) This vaccine is a combination vaccine of influenza A/NP (A Nucleoprotein) and B/NP (B Nucleoprotein)

3. Mechanism of Action

1) Antigen presentation via the MHC class I pathway

2) Induction of cell-mediated immunity centered on CD8⁺ tissue-resident memory T cells (TRM)

3) Capable of providing long-term protective immunity based on an adenoviral vector platform
